Driving under the influence of drugs is ‘impaired driving’ in the law

Driving under the influence of drugs or driving while intoxicated is a punishable crime in the existing law in the first place. DWI or DUI never means that you are driving on the road after taking some drugs that are not allowed in the law or are illegal. The drugs are legal but as you are under influence, you are not allowed to drive your vehicle because you may bring about a road accident posing danger not only for you and other people in your car or guys on the road in their cars.​

In fact, the law is all about providing the protection to the people of the country but when someone doesn’t obey the law, they have to face some challenges in the form of legal punishments according to the existing law. Different terms such as OVI, OMVI, and DWI & DUI are used to describe the action of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

A person who is found guilty of DWI is dealt with different ways in different states depending on the number of drugs and alcohol in their blood. Let’s take a look at each abbreviation one by one to better understand the idea. DWI stands for Driving While Intoxicated – also stands for Driving while Impaired. DUI is the abbreviation for Driving under the Influence. OWI stands for Operating While Impaired.

All the terms are used to refer to a person who commits the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs with an impaired brain. In most of the states, DWI or DUI is considered to be a serious crime as it may cause a fatal accident as well. The drugs that have intoxicating effect when used in excessive amount can easily impair judgment and driving needs the driver to have a full concentration from start to finish.
